Ingredients:
- 3 cups premium flour + extra for dusting
- 1/3 cup dry milk
- 1 tbsp. granulated sugar
- 5 tsp baking powder
- 2 tsp cream of tartar
- 2 teaspoons of salt
- 110 g chilled butter, cut into pieces
- 0.5 cups of confectionery fat
- 1.5 cups buttermilk
- 1/4 cup melted butter
Preparation:
- Preheat oven to 230°C.
- Combine flour, dry milk, sugar, baking powder, cream of tartar, and salt in a medium bowl.
- Using a pastry cutter, fold the butter and shortening into the dry mixture, kneading until smooth. Continue adding buttermilk until the dough is smooth.
- On a lightly floured surface, flatten the dough and use your hands to form a circle 2.5–4 cm thick. Using a cookie cutter, cut out circles from the dough. Place the circles in cast-iron skillets and brush the surface of the dough with melted butter. Bake in the oven until dark golden brown, 10–12 minutes.
