topcook.tomathouse.com

Ingredients:

  • 16 tbsp (4 L) apple cider (unfiltered apple juice without sugar)
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • A pinch of nutmeg
  • 2 tsp whole cloves
  • 1 orange
  • Cinnamon sticks, for serving
  • 2 cups bourbon, optional

Preparation:

  1. In a large saucepan, heat the apple cider over medium heat. Add the brown sugar, allspice, and nutmeg, heat until the sugar dissolves, and bring to a gentle simmer.
  2. Insert the pointed ends of the cloves into the orange, leaving only the buds visible. The entire orange should be covered in cloves.
  3. Place the orange in the cider and reduce the heat. Cover and continue to simmer for 20 minutes.
  4. Pour the spiced cider into warm mugs, garnishing with cinnamon sticks. For adults, add bourbon. Serve with pumpkin pie.
