Hot dogs with chili sauce topcook.tomathouse.com
Ingredients:
- Extra virgin olive oil
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 chopped garlic cloves
- 0.5 kg lean ground beef
- 2.5 tbsp. (750 ml.) ketchup
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 2 tablespoons prepared yellow mustard
- Table salt and freshly ground black pepper
- 4 beef sausages
- 4 hot dog buns
- 0.5 tbsp. grated cheddar cheese
Preparation:
- Place a skillet over medium heat and pour in 1 tablespoon of olive oil. When the oil begins to smoke slightly, add the onion and garlic. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring constantly, until softened and translucent. Add the ground beef and cook for 10 minutes, breaking it up with the back of a spatula until it's nicely browned. Mix in the ketchup, chili powder, and mustard. Cook over low heat until the mixture thickens.
- While the sauce is cooking, turn on the grill. Place a large grill pan on two burners over medium heat, or preheat an outdoor gas or charcoal grill to high. Take several paper towels and fold them over to form a tight square. Dip a towel in a small amount of oil. Quickly and gently wipe the grill grates to prevent sticking.
- Cook the sausages in boiling water for 5 minutes. Remove them from the water, pat them dry, and grill them until they have grill marks, which will also impart a smoky flavor. Brush the insides of the hot dog buns with olive oil and place them cut-side down on the grill. Cook until crispy. To serve, place the sausage in a hot dog bun, top with chili sauce, and some cheddar cheese.
