French toast with liquid filling topcook.tomathouse.com
Ingredients:
- 2 sticky buns with cinnamon and icing sticky buns
- 3 tablespoons softened cream cheese
- 2 tsp maple syrup, plus extra for topping
- A pinch of ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup chocolate chips
- Butter or vegetable oil, for frying
- 1 egg
- 0.5 cups semi-skimmed milk with 1.5-2% fat content
Preparation:
- Preheat oven to 170°C.
- Beat cream cheese with 2 teaspoons maple syrup and cinnamon until smooth.
Cut the tops and bottoms of the buns to about 5 cm (2 inches) tall, and make a horizontal slit almost down the middle, but don't cut all the way through. Spread the inside of each bun with cream cheese frosting and sprinkle with chocolate chips.
- Heat an ovenproof skillet over medium heat and grease it with butter and/or vegetable oil. Beat the egg and milk together and dip the rolls in the mixture on both sides. Cook the French toast for about 4 minutes per side.
- Then bake the toasts for 5-8 minutes, until the chocolate melts in the center. Serve immediately with maple syrup, or for a richer dessert, top with a scoop of ice cream drizzled with maple syrup.
